A mining operation is seeking to improve its load and haul (L&H) performance. They have run multiple improvement projects previously however the results were not sustained.

The client has defined multiple best practices that, if achieved, should translate to performance improvement in safety as well as cycle time and cost reduction. The client wishes to deliver this change through its front-line leaders and without the use external consultants / contractors.

Client Objective

The client seeks to:

1. Rapidly achieve best practice load and haul operations--improving safety and performance.
2. Improve cycle times while lowering operating costs including fuel consumption and maintenance.
3. Engage its operations management and front-line to ensure ownership and sustainment of the best practices.
4. Minimize cost of implementation and use of external consultants.
5. Complement (not duplicate) its existing learning and risk management systems.

1. The client assigns an Accountable Person and Method8 assigns a Practitioner to work with them.
2. A workshop is undertaken with the clients to clearly define the load and haul best practices that will drive performance.
3. The load and haul best practices are transformed into an engaging, and measurable, Method8 formative assessment.
   • The assessment contains education materials specific to the load and haul best practices.
   • The assessment is designed to measure both employee understanding of, and effectiveness of, the best practices.

4. The client defines an accountable person (Superintendents and L&H Supervisors) at each of their sites to lead the assessment and identifies the preferred mix of team members (management, supervisor, planners, maintenance, select crew) assigned to undertake the assessment.
5. The client integrates the Method8 assessment into its existing:
   • Learning Management System (LMS) Load and Haul training course (completion of the assessment is logged in the LMS)

Assess

1. The client deploys the Method8 best practice assessment to its Load and Haul Supervisors.
2. The assessment triggers some pre-work on the part of team members—including data and fact collection to inform the assessment.
3. The assessment is taken as a team (with different stakeholders in the room)—building a deeper understanding of the best practices and self-assessing current achievement of the practices. Significant team discussion and debate unfolds during this self assessment process.
4. Method8 platform functionality is used to escalate questions / blockers that require clarification from operations leadership.
5. Teams identify the actions required to close gaps to the best practices and identify blockers that will require internal leadership support.

Act (and AI)

1. Method8’s AI agent is used to review maturity scoring, gaps, actions and other data to provide operation or enterprise-level insights.
2. The client confirms and initiates gap closure action across each site and, if required, at an enterprise level.
3. The client tracks gap closure and determines the next assessment point.
